Inspiring the Next Generation

Inspiring the Next Generation

Aspire People have teamed up with Derby Manufacturing UTC to inspire the next generation of teachers. The manufacturing college is a £8 million partnership between Rolls-Royce, Toyota and other local engineering companies. Their aim is to prepare students for a career in engineering, thus helping tackle a shortage of skilled workers in Derby which the college plans to do by introducing a new concept in education for 14-19 year-olds. Part of the concept is extending the school day to mirror the typical working day.

Aspire People are currently sponsoring the college for the international F1 in schools competition, however they also visited the school on this occasion to inspire the next generation of teachers. Laura Ferns presented to the students at Derby Manufacturing UTC showing them different avenues they can take from their qualifications gained from Derby Manufacturing UTC. During the presentation Laura explained to the students the routes that they can take into teaching and what is expected from teachers.

Laura stated, “we hope that we have inspired the students to take up a career in education with the skills and qualifications they have gained from Derby Manufacturing UTC”
