Monica McDonough
Coventry Secondary Consultant
What do you love most about working in education?
Working in education presents it’s challenges on a daily basis and in many different ways but the real enjoyment of my role as a consultant is the ability to build relationships with my schools and teachers and watch those relationships develop and grow. I want to feel that I can make a difference no matter how small it might be. When I get positive feedback and comments it makes me feel that I’ve done something positive and have in some way made a small contribution to help whether it be finding a teacher for a school at the last minute or placing a teacher that the school really likes. Each school and teacher is unique and each one has their different needs so when you can get it right it is a good feeling. I have worked with some schools since I first started in this role nearly seven years ago and they have stayed with me through this time which encourages me to do the very best I can.
What’s it like to work with me as a candidate?
I have an approachable nature and I want to make people feel what they do is important. I want them to feel that I value the experience and knowledge they have to offer and that is isn’t taken for granted. I want my candidates to have a good experience and know that I will do my best for them. Building relationships and having the time to take on board what is required is key. I am very personable and like to make everyone feel at ease. I am understanding and appreciative of people’s circumstances and know that not everything is always straight forward but I will do what I can to help when needed. It is important to be there for any questions or situations which may arise. Creating new relationships and meeting people is something I love and I hope this reflects in my personality and what I do.

I have been fortunate to work alongside Monica for 8 years. Monica, has a wealth of key communication skills which enable her to develop caring, supportive relationships with the teachers who work with her. I feel valued and appreciated, we work as a team to deliver the best service we can to the schools we are working with. Monica has a good insight into the demands of a school and the role of agency staff. If a day has been challenging she is always a listening ear and able to alleviate the pressures of the day. It is clear, when I have gone into schools, that she has excellent relationships with the schools she works for and is highly regarded. One thing I appreciate is that Monica will always go the extra mile outside the remit of her job. Nothing is too much trouble and I am pleased to be able to work with her and also call her a friend. A perfect combination.
