Aspire People are currently recruiting for an experienced and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support children with special educational needs at a well-established SEN school in Leicester. This is a full-time, long-term position with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' educational journeys.
Role Overview:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will primarily work with primary-aged children with varying levels of special educational needs, including some students with more severe difficulties. There may also be occasional requirements to work within the Sixth Form department, providing support for older students with complex needs. You will work closely with the classroom teacher and other support staff to ensure the students receive tailored, high-quality support.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one and small group support for children with special educational needs (SEN) in the classroom.
Assist children with severe learning difficulties and help with personal care where necessary.
Support and help implement individual education plans (IEPs) and ensure student needs are met effectively.
Create a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that encourages independence and boosts confidence.
Assist the class teacher with general classroom duties and maintaining order.
Occasionally support students in the Sixth Form, helping with complex SEN needs.
Take part in training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in supporting children with special needs.
Essential Requirements:
Experience working with children with special educational needs in a UK school, either in primary or secondary education.
A patient, caring, and flexible approach to working with children.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
A sound understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
A passion for supporting the well-being and development of children with diverse learning needs.
Flexibility to adapt to different teaching environments and tasks as required.
Desirable:
Previous experience working with children who have severe learning difficulties.
Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
